PART 3

FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY WHOLE NAMES OF ENSLAVED AFRICAN DESCENDANTS IN ADAMS COUNTY RECORD BOOK FOUND IN 1999

The names listed below (beginning in Part 4) were taken from the Adams County Record Book found in 1999. These names were first and last names, which could be of great help to some present day African Descendants looking for their genealogical Ancestors clans. Credit Gloria McCallum, Georgia Wise and Bill Mudd for providing a copy of the record book transcribed. There were roughly 1500 names in the book, however, listed here are 550 whole names. The rest of the names in the book were first names or no last names. The set of figures to the extreme right on the lists are: first four digits equal the month and date the enslaved African Descendants were ill-gotten in county and state to the left. The last two or three digits equal the page number in the record book where that particular African Descendants’ name appears. Also on each page there are entries as follows: The enslaving dealer (slave owner), African Descendant (Slave) Parents, Age, Sex, Color and other. The other category shows the names of persons in the particular county/state who witnessed the good character of an ill-gotten African Descendant. In most cases the witness is a partner or relative of the enslaving dealer, state, county, date (sold) ill-gotten and page number. There was no information entered in the parent category. The county and state from which the enslaved African Descendants were ill-gotten can be looked up on a modern day map. For example, Fayette County Kentucky is Lexington, which was a major base of operation for traffickers and Jefferson County Kentucky is Louisville.

The Kentucky Underground Railroad Institute in Georgetown, Kentucky and Ser Seshs Ab Heter-CM Boxley both have copies of the Adams County Enslavement Dealers Record book which shows what enslavement dealers held which particular enslaved person in captivity for sale in Natchez.
