P W = Preparation Workshop

Our preparation workshop (P W) is designed to help bring about significant inclusion and participation of the African American community as commemorators of the official Sesquicentennial (150th Anniversary) of the American Civil War.

Our (P W) aims to equip governmental, civic, corporate and community based organizations and programs sources with factual knowledge and information precisely related to the roles, actions, and events enslaved and non-enslaved African descendants were involved in as Union soldiers, sailors, cavalry and contraband civilians during the war, up and down the Mississippi River Valley on both sides.

The specific and précised information of African Descent Union Soldiers, Sailors and Contraband this project will present is not generally or specifically known, taught, re-enacted, presented and interpreted by the local target sources mentioned above.

Example: How many of your persons are familiar with the military actions Union Army African descent soldiers and sailors were involved just in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi during the Civil War?

The Civil War Sesquicentennial Commemoration "is the first time African Americans will be able to tell our own Civil War history since the Civil War."

The specific objectives of our P W is to: 1. Awaken the multi racial and cultural communities of the Lower Mississippi Valley (especially African Americans) to the fact that an official commemoration of the American Civil War will take place state by state in America from 2011 to 2015. In many cases such commemoration started in 2009 in recognition of the John Brown legacy.

2. We will engage two professional experts, one from Trotwood Ohio and one from Clinton Mississippi, to impart the specifics. They will do so in a public workshop format. Public invitation and announcements is our outreach method of reaching out to our intended target attendees. So spread the word!

In areas of education and community improvement/enrichment, our P W will provide documented facts, statistics, and reports which will enable governments, (particularly educational institutions), civic, corporate, and community based organizations and programs to be more historical accurate relative to the significant role played by United States Colored Troops/Sailors of the Union Army “the Third Army in the Civil War.”

Our P W will awaken African Americans descendants to realize what enslaved relatives and foreparents accomplished to bring about the first mass freedom and civil rights for African Americans in North America, excepting Haiti.

Our P W will aid state Sesquicentennial Commissions with their mission of ensuring "that all stories are told accurately."
